Anchor Text
Anchor text is the visible, clickable part of a hyperlink. It’s usually a few descriptive words that tell readers what they’ll find if they follow the link. Anchor text normally appears in a different colour from the surrounding text, often underlined.
Anchor text is an SEO signal. Search engines read it as a description of the page you’re linking to, so linking to a page with “local SEO services” as the anchor text helps that page rank for that term. This works for both internal links between your own pages and external links from other sites.
Anchor text matters for accessibility too. People using screen readers often navigate by jumping from link to link, so the text needs to make sense on its own. ‘Click here’ tells them nothing out of context, whereas descriptive text tells them exactly where the link goes.
